LYNN — Police may have thwarted an overnight car break-in or a potential violent crime early Saturday morning by arresting a 28-year-old man carrying an illegal firearm.
At approximately 2 a.m., Lynn Police Officers Mike Chalmers and Dave Hunter were on patrol in the area of 602 Boston St. when they noticed a man, later identified as Adrian Ball, near an SUV that was parked at the end of a driveway, Lynn Police Lt. Dave Brown said.
Upon noticing officers, Ball, who was hooded and wearing dark clothing, retreated into the shadows of the driveway, Brown said.
The pair, taking into account recent car breaks and other concerns for that area of the city, suspected they may have interrupted a break-in attempt and were able to quickly find Ball, Brown said.
“During the subsequent investigation, the officers learned that the person had no business being there, and they discovered him to be wearing a shoulder holster,” Brown said. “After a few tense moments a firearm was located in the dark, on the ground, close to where they were standing.”
Ball was arrested and charged with carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a loaded firearm weapon and firearm violation with one prior violent or drug offense, and trespassing.
“The officers’ keen observations removed a firearm from the streets, and possibly prevented a more sinister crime from occurring,” said Brown.
