It took a bit longer than the Peabody field hockey team had hoped but with a 2-0 win over Everett Wednesday afternoon, the Tanners earned their first win of the 2018 season. The win also marks the first victory for first-year Peabody coach Tawny Palmieri.
“Everyone on the varsity team played and contributed to the win tonight,” Palmieri said. “JV also win their first game too. All around the program had a great night and played the best they have as a team so far.”
Sophie Izzo and Bella Decicco each had a goal in the victory, while Hailee Monies had two assists. Goalie Sydney Branga earned the shutout in net.
The Tanners visit Danvers Friday (4).
FIELD HOCKEY
Gloucester 3, Marblehead 1
Jane O’Neil scored the lone goal for the Magicians, while Sophie Collins had one assist. Bella Corsini, Madi Monahan, Charlotte Plakans and Josie Friedman all played well.
Swampscott 2, Revere 0
Sydney Cresta and Chrissy Rogers each scored a goal in Swampscott’s win. Mary Miles and Olivia Fillenworth led Swampscott’s defensive unit.
BOYS SOCCER
Fenwick 4, Spellman 1
At Spellman, Brian Harrington scored two goals to lead the Crusaders. Sean Walsh and Jameson Martinez also had solid games.
Fenwick improved to 4-5-1. The Crusaders host Winthrop Monday morning (10).
Lynnfield 6, Amesbury 1
The Pioneers featured six different goal scorers in Tommy Buston, Tommy Hauser, Jack Cleary, Nathan Bass, John Luders and Ben Sykes.
Goalie Jack Campbell made one save.
“We got a lot of contributions from everybody so that was nice to see,” Pioneers coach Brent Munroe said.
Lynnfield (8-1) visits Ipswich Friday (3:45).
KIPP 4, PCHS 0
The Panthers remained undefeated (4-0) behind goals from Anderson Rodriguez, Aubrey Connors, Marco Escobar and Kenny De Leon. Goalie Osahon Airwele earned his second shutout in as many games. James Paz and Wellington Gonzalez led KIPP’s defense.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Mary’s 5, Matignon 0
At Matignon, Susannah Cornell and Kayla Demers each scored two goals and dished one assist. Sherly Feliz scored one goal. Spartans goalie Eliza Brown made four saves for her sixth shutout win of the season.
“It was a good bounce back win after Monday’s loss to Fenwick,” Spartans coach Jim Foley said. “It was nice to get back on the winning track. We’re looking to keep momentum going.”
St. Mary’s (6-3-1) visits Arlington Catholic Friday afternoon (3:45).
Swampscott 9, Medford 0
At Blocksidge Field, the Big Blue rolled their way to a Northeastern Conference victory with six different goal scorers. Madeline Tribendis scored two goals, Maddy Foutes scored one goal and dished two assists, while Haley Bernhardt and Reese Robertson each scored a goal with one assist.
In net, goalies Nikki Rosa and Abby Rhodes combined for the shutout win. Rosa made three saves while Rhodes tallied two saves.
Swampscott (6-3) hosts Beverly Thursday (4).
Saugus 6, Salem 2
Led by Alivia Burke’s two goals, the Sachems rolled to a win.
Jeimmy Monroy Rodrigus, Kiley Ronan, Allie LeBlanc and Shaylin Groark each added one goal in the win.
Saugus (7-1) plays on the road at Revere Friday.

Salem 38 1/2, Gloucester 33 1/2
The Witches earned a close win at Olde Salem Greens.
Casey Williamson had a big day and won his match 8-1, while Nick Angeramo, Troy Zipper and Joe Parr each won their matches, 5-4.
Salem (9-2) hosts Winthrop back at Olde Salem Greens Thursday afternoon.
Swampscott 55 1/2, Peabody 16 1/2
Swampscott rolled to a big win at Salem Country Club, led by Ryan Graciale winning his match 7-2 after shooting an even-par 36, which included an eagle on the fifth hole.
Other winners for the Big Blue were Tate Greenfield (8 1/2-1/2), Max Pegnato (7 1/2-1 1/2), Danny Dilisio (7 1/2-1 1/2), Jake Goldman (6 1/2-2 1/2), Lou Spellios (6 1/2-2 1/2), Aidan Tierney (6 1/2-2 1/2) and Aidan Graciale (5 1/2-3 1/2).
The Big Blue (7-1) host Beverly Thursday.

The Big Blue had seven runners finish in the top 10 to earn a win in a tri-meet.
Dillon Browley was the top finisher for Swampscott in third place (18:54), while Reece Klusza finished in fourth place (18:56). Harry Katz finished in sixth place (19:34), Matthew Brown finished in seventh place (19:52) and Chip Cronin finished in eighth place (20:06). Ben Neilan (20:19) and Michael Ferragamo (20:24) rounded out the top finishers for the Big Blue.

Led by Olivia King’s first-place finish, Swampscott notched a solid win in a tri-meet.
King finished in 21:48 to take first, while Gigi Dishman finished in fourth place with a time of 22:45. Elizabeth Green finished in seventh place (23:11), Emma Sands finished in eighth place (23:16) and Clara Harrington finished in ninth place (23:24).
