The Classical boys soccer team picked up a big road win Wednesday afternoon with a 2-1 victory at Beverly. Gabriel Novoa continued his strong start to the season with a goal on Alex Ixlaj’s assist. Kevin Molina scored his first goal of the season. Rams goalie Dan Cortes made six saves. Ivan Melara also played a solid game.
“It was a good win,” Classical coach Eric Moreno said. “It was a bit scrappy but we were able to come out of there with the points. It was a good win overall.”
The Rams (6-1-2) visit Malden Friday.
BOYS SOCCER
St. Mary’s 5, Spellman 2
The Spartans featured five different goal scorers as Nolan Perez, Jackson Nicoklau, Joe Thongsythavong, Richie LeBrun (first varsity goal) and Matt Connolly scored one goal apiece. Goalie Nick Pappas made six saves.
“It was a strong week for the program,” Spartans assistant coach Joe Gill said. “We won at Williams and we won at Spellman. It’s a boost for the program but we’re far from done, we need to keep working hard.”
Somerville 2, Peabody 0
The Highlanders sealed the win with two goals in the second half.
Playing well for Peabody were Ramon Falcao, Nick Sablone, Noah Surman, Michael Tansey and Kyle Morfis.
Peabody (3-1-1) visits Medford Tuesday.
Williams 2, Fenwick 1
Sean Kern scored Fenwick’s lone goal. The Crusaders are 2-4-1 this season.
GIRLS SOCCER
St. Mary’s 1, Spellman 0
Morgan Mackey scored the lone goal and goalie Eliza Brown made 10 saves for her fifth shutout of the season.
“Eliza’s doing great,” Spartans coach Jim Foley said. “We didn’t have a goalie at the beginning of the season. She stepped up and tried it. She’s done very well.”
The Spartans (5-2-1) visit Matignon Friday (4).
Saugus 4, Somerville 0
Behind a stellar performance in net by Alana Aldred and two goals from freshman Madison Goyetche, the Sachems earned a shutout victory.
Jess Carter and Kylie Ronan each added one goal apiece for the Sachems.
Saugus (4-1) plays on the road at Winthrop Friday.
Marblehead 4, Essex Tech 2
The Magicians rallied from a 1-0 deficit at halftime to earn their second win of the season.
Carter Murray led the way with a hat trick for Marblehead, while Meeghan Cronin scored one goal.
Marblehead is now 2-5.

The Falcons are 5-1-1 this season.

Winthrop 39 1/2, Classical 32 1/2
Classical’s Brendan Lannon won his match at 5 ½-3 ½. Tim Nerich, Kyle McCarthy, Shawn Finnigan and Andrew Patrie each tied their matches.
The Rams (7-2) play English next Monday at Gannon (3:45).
Danvers 43, Marblehead 29
The Falcons continued their undefeated season by taking down previously-undefeated Marblehead.
Jared Mscicz, Cam Morrison, Ian Paskowski, Mike Papamechail and Noah Pierce were all winners for Danvers.
For Marblehead, Will Cleary won his match 6 1/2-2 1/2, Finn Keaney won his match 5-4 and Gavin Lundgren halved his match in the loss.
VOLLEYBALL
Marblehead 3, Salem 0
Marblehead earned the win in straight sets, 25-8, 25-20, 25-13.
Jordan Heafitz led the offensive attack with six kills, while Sarah Lipsky added five kills. Isabel Curtin had 15 assists in the win.
Marblehead (6-3) hosts Masconomet Friday.
