Nominees for directors are: Sheri Conte, Anne Lyness, Jo-Ann Murphy, Kim Phelan, Bill Smalley, and Michael Thompson.
Listening to reports and events of the 2018 festival can be a good introduction to the workings of the festival for newcomers. The festival cannot happen without the efforts of the many volunteers who donate their time. An idea that started small, with a few thousand dollars to mount a few exhibits, has grown over a half century into a four-day celebration showcasing a cross-section of the arts and the people who practice them. The visual arts, such as drawing, sculpture, oil painting, and photography, have been joined by film, music, and writing as festival mainstays.
One-by-one new ideas have been introduced. Kite festivals and model boat building with subsequent races on Redd’s Pond. Scholarships. Fundraisers, themselves events, such as the Festival of Cod Auction in which artists decorate wooden cods in many whimsical styles, and the Champagne Reception with its great food, music, and annual hat contest. To learn how you can become involved, come to the meeting.
Volunteering for the festival can be a family affair; many parents, children, and siblings work together at events, exhibits and fundraisers.
