SAUGUS — A Lynn man was arrested Wednesday after a caller reported he was carjacked as he was getting into his work van on Winter Street in the morning, when a man jumped into his vehicle and sped off.
The man, later identified as Cody William Smith, 23, of Lynn, was described to police as having tattoos on his hand, according to the Saugus Police log.
“They were able to contact the owner of the company and the vehicle was tracked via GPS to Orcutt Avenue,” said interim police chief Ronald Giorgetti. “They located the vehicle unoccupied.”
While police were pursuing Smith, a second 911 caller reported a male with a similar description had approached his daughter on Denver Street near the Waybright Elementary School. Giorgetti said the female was not reported to be a child.
“They located the male in the area of Denver Street,” said Giorgetti. “As a result of the officers’ investigation, Cody Smith was placed under custody.”
Smith was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with a revoked license, said Giorgetti.
