SWAMPSCOTT — A walk-a-thon to help raise funds to sustain hurricane-devastated St. Catherine’s Parish in Haiti will be held Sunday, Sept. 9.
Walkers are invited to register and enjoy a light breakfast that morning from 8:30-9 a.m. at St. John’s Parish Hall, 198 Humphrey St.
At 9 a.m., the group will leave for the 2-mile walk down Lynn Shore Drive to the Lynn rotary and back. A $20 donation is requested from each participant. Water will be available along the route.
All walkers will receive a T-shirt and be eligible for a special raffle to be drawn immediately following the walk.
From 9:30-11 a.m., back at the Parish Hall, Dr. David Kilroy of Kilroy Chiropractic, Swampscott, and a massage therapist will be available to talk with walkers and offer some services. All funds raised by the walk-a-thon, a picnic and the raffle will go directly to the Haitian church and school community of St. Catherine.
Prizes to be raffled to all supporters include a $100 gift card to Mission on the Bay, a $50 lottery ticket basket, two tickets for the North Shore Music Theatre’s “A Christmas Carol,” one pair of walking or running shoes, a Tides’ restaurant gift card and many others. Raffle tickets are $5 each; three for $10. They will be sold after all masses Sept. 1–2 and after the 4 p.m. mass on Saturday, Sept. 8. Raffle winners not present will be notified by telephone.
The Haitian community was adopted by both St. John’s and St. Thomas’ of Nahant as a sister parish in 2010.
