REVERE — A Lynn mother hasn’t heard from her 17-year-old daughter in a week and is fearing the worst.
Haley Driggers has been reported missing to Revere Police and has been listed with the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children since July 23.
Jennifer Tanner, of Lynn, said her daughter came back from South Carolina to live with her in Lynn in 2015 and got mixed up in the wrong crowd. She said Driggers was abused by her boyfriend and started taking off.
Driggers had been living with her father and stepmother in South Carolina, but suffered abuse there and was removed from the home along with the other children, according to Tanner.
Tanner said her daughter doesn’t like to follow rules, and her behavior led Tanner to file a Child Requiring Assistance (CRA) case with the state. Driggers had been living in an intensive care foster program in Revere at the time of her disappearance.
Tanner said her daughter was hanging out with a much older crowd and would drink heavily and take Xanax. She’s admitted to taking acid and Ecstasy in the past. Normally, when she would run off, she would only go for a day or two, but this the longest she’s been gone.
Tanner said she had been in contact with her daughter for about a month since she’s been gone, but has had no contact for the last week. Typically, she said, her daughter would reach out to her or her caseworker, or at least message her to let her know she was safe.
She said she’s been trying to get her daughter the proper help — Driggers suffers from mental health issues, is on depression medication and has attempted suicide twice in the past. Tanner said she’s concerned her daughter isn’t taking care of herself.
“I don’t know what to do at this point because this is unlike her,” Tanner said. “Honestly, when I was at least getting the ‘safe’ messages, (she was) probably doing things she shouldn’t be doing but at least (I knew) she’s alive. Honestly, at this point, I’m fearing the worst. What if she overdosed? Everything bad is crossing my mind at this point.”
Revere Police declined to comment on the case.
The “missing poster” on the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children lists Driggers as white with brown eyes and brown hair. She’s 5 feet 6 inches, weighs 151 pounds and has a tattoo on her chest. She is listed missing out of Revere — she may still be in the area or may travel to Boston.
