The Lynn 13-year-old Babe Ruth All-Stars started their season the right way Friday night, defeating Medford in a 18-0 rout on the road.
Lynn pitcher Yordy Contreras tossed shutout four-innings in the shortened game, striking out five and allowing one hit.
Lynn received contributions up and down its order, starting with Contreras who went 2-for-3. Brady Warren went 2-for-3 with two RBI, Knico Ramirez went 2-for-3 with one RBI, Deniel Ortiz went 2-for-3 with three RBI, Shea Palmer went 2-for-4 with one RBI. Also contributing to the win were Jack Marks (2-for-2, two RBI), Sam Ohanessian (1-for-1) and Eldrian Bonilla (three walks, three runs scored).
Lynn put the game well out of reach with a 13-run rally in the top of the third inning, in which the first 12 batters all scored.
“It was a great way to start,” Lynn 13’s manager Paul Hartford said. “The kids were into it. We took advantage of running the bases well. The defense made the plays. Jack Anderson handled two chances at second base. We played flawless defense. It’s a great way to get started.”
Lynn (1-0) hosts Belmont Sunday (5).
