LYNN — The local group in charge of helping the victims of the Guatemalan volcano that erupted two Sundays ago has already raised more than $3,500.
The small committee is comprised of Lynn residents who are concerned about number of missing people in Guatemala and the death tolls that continues to rise each day. Juan Gonzalez, one of the members of the Guatemala Needs You committee, created a GoFundMe page as well as a Bank of America account, account number 4460-0319-6335, that people can donate to at any time.
At their initial meeting last Tuesday, the group decided to rent a storage container and place it at one specific location for people to drop off much-needed supplies, such as canned food, Ibuprofen, Pedialyte, vitamins, other medications, bed sheets, and brand new kids clothes and shoes.
According to Isabel Lopez, another member of the committee, the storage container will be available for drop-off this Friday and will be in the parking lot of 157 North Common Street. Anyone can drop off donations during the week from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. as the container will be there for the next three weeks. T-shirts with “Guatemala Needs You” on the front will also be sold there for $25.
