SAUGUS — The driver of a Mercedes struck a pedestrian whom police say was was distracted by his mobile phone near Walnut Street Tuesday afternoon.
Saugus Police Lt. Ronald Giorgetti said the driver of the 2012 Mercedes Benz C300, a 58-year-old woman from Saugus, was turning off of Walnut Street and the pedestrian was crossing the road. The 28-year-old Lynn man was not using a crosswalk, according to police.
“He was distracted by his phone and had headphones in his ears,” said Giorgetti. “At this time, I don’t believe the operator of the motor vehicle has been cited.”
According to the police log, a caller reported that a man had been struck by a vehicle shortly after 1:15 p.m. Tuesday. The caller described the victim to be breathing, but not responsive.
First responders reported the man regained consciousness and was breathing with no visible injuries.
He was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with non life threatening injuries, said Giorgetti. The driver declined medical attention.
