If Bishop Fenwick had to play two baseball games this weekend, the Crusaders might as well have won them both.
Mission accomplished. The Crusaders blanked Georgetown Saturday, 8-0; and came back Sunday to defeat Pentucket, 7-5.
In Saturday’s game, Tyler Thomas picked up his first win of the season, going four innings and allowing no hits. He struck out one. Jake Miano, Alex Gonzalez and Sam Lynch pitched an inning each.
Nick Fowler had two hits and scored two runs, Angelo McCullough, Ethan Belt and Harrison Brickett had two RBI each.
Scott Emerson turned in a strong game at third.
Sunday, Gonzales pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up three runs on three hit, striking out seven and walking two. Nic Pignone got the win in relief, pitching 2 ⅔ innings, allowing two runsn and three hits.
Keegan O’Conner had two RBI and Belt and
Christian Loescher one each.
Fenwick is 5-1 overall.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. Mary’s 11, Triton 9
Brendan Laundry scored four goals and the Spartans improved to 3-3 on the season. Nick Napolitano added two key goals in the fourth quarter, helping break a 7-7 tie after three periods of play. Davis Kinne scored two goals in the second quarter to lead St. Mary’s to a 6-1 advantage at halftime. The Spartans host Spellman this evening (5) at Manning.
St. John’s 10, Lexington 4
At St. John’s, the Eagles were led by Craig Yannone (2 goals) and John Merrigan. The two combined to go 17 of 18 on the faceoffs.
Seven different Eagles scored goals in a well balanced, patient attack.
On the defensive side of the ball Andrew Ponsetto continued his strong play by causing turnovers and pushing transition up field.
The Eagles return to action on Tuesday at Xaverian (7)
For The Prep, Jake Surette had a goal and three assists,, Jack Rickards had a goal and two assist, Luike Hendricks, Bryan Penn and Craig scored twice, with Aidan Shea and Michael Kelly with singletons.
Goalie Alex Kreher had 10 saves.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Winchester 19, St. Mary’s 9
The Spartans trailed by just two goals through the first half of play but Winchester put the game away in the second half to grab the victory. St. Mary’s (3-5) aims to bounce back with a win this afternoon (3:30) at Spellman.
TRACK
The Saugus boys and girls track competed at the second Annual Northeastern Conference Relay Meet Saturday and coach Connie D’Amato said the team had some impressive scores in the non-scoring event.
In the triple jump relay, Kenny Okoye had a 40-½, which qualified him for states. Jarod DeSousa jumped 34-1, and Elijah Tapia-Gately had a 32-6.
In the long jump, Okoye had a 17-5, Joe Alba a 17-9 and Jarod DeSousa at 15-6.
In the javelin, Eric Chaves, Nick Ferrera and Keith Monto combined for aq 250-7.
Cam Catinazzo, Chaves, Monto and Alba ran a combined 10:12. In the distance medley, Tapia-Gately (1200), Paul Duong (400), Catin
