LYNN — Police are investigating after a 52-year-old Lynn man said he was stabbed by a woman who stole his car on Tuesday night. The woman had told the victim she needed help, but instead allegedly tried to rob him at knifepoint in his car.
Police responded to a report of a stolen car in the area of Violet and Green streets at approximately 8:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers found a man who had a significant cut with bleeding to his left arm and left thigh, Lynn Police Lt. Dave Brown said.
He was treated at the scene by Atlantic Ambulance and Lynn Fire crews and then taken to Salem Hospital, Brown said. His injuries were not considered life-threatening.
The victim told police he was driving in the area when he was flagged down by a woman who said she needed help. He allowed her to get into his car. At some point, the woman showed a knife and held it to the man’s throat, Brown said.
The woman then allegedly demanded the victim’s wallet and money. During a struggle between the two, the victim was slashed and fled his car. The woman then jumped behind the wheel and drove away, Brown said.
“This does not appear to be a random act, and there could be more to the story, which the victim did not care to share,” Brown said. “The vehicle, a red Mazda 6, was reported stolen, and (on Wednesday) was recovered, abandoned.”
The incident is under investigation by the Lynn Police Criminal Investigation Division. No arrest has been made, but police have identified a few people of interest, who fit the suspect’s description.
