LYNN — Day three of the 41st Annual Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament Saturday saw seven teams advance to the semifinals.
The day’s action kicked off with a Division 1 girls game between Harrington and Callahan. Harrington led the whole way for a 18-3 win. Jayleen Novas scored 8 points and Crystal Deleon 6 for Harrington. Callahan’s high scorers were Savannah Tang and Ashanti Mott. Harrington will play the winner of Tracy/Drewicz Friday at 4:30.
In Game 2, Hood, last year’s Division 1 girls fell to Ingalls, 22-5. Alisha Soto and Saniya Patton turned in fantastic performances for the Rockets, scoring 8 and 6 points. Nakiiyah Womack and Amayah Santana were the high scorers for the Hawks.
In the first boys game, Cobbet nipped Tracy 17-12, Cobbet’s William Pena was high scorer with 7 points and teammate Edwin Castro chipped in 5. Cameron Weaver had 5 points and Jason Perry and Johan Tavares scored 3 apiece for Tracy.
Cobbet takes on Ford Thursday at 4:30.
In Division 2 girls, the Aborn girls took a 6-point lead into the half and cruised to the 27-12 victory over Brickett. Aborn’s Mea Papazoglou led all scorers with 14 points and Ariana Reynoso had 8. Jarianna McMillan had 10 for Brickett. Aborn looks to unseat undefeated Sewell-Anderson in the semis this Thursday at 5:45.
In Division 1, the Connery girls prevailed over Ford, 14-4, in a Division 1 girls game. Connery coach Robert F. Conlon praised his team’s effort on both ends of the court and is looking forward to taking on Ingalls in the semis on Thursday at 3:15. Jarelis Lara was Connery’s high scorer with 6 points. Naomy Vasquez scored all four points for Ford.
The final two games of the day were both decided in the final minute. First, home court favorite Sisson took on Washington in front of a packed gym. Sisson had an 8-point lead midway through the second half but couldn’t survive a late push and full court press by Washington, which won, 26-23. Denzell Guillen (a 2017 Tournament all-star got hot at the right time scoring 8 of his team high 10 points in the second half for Washington. Teammates DJ Santana and Jarrod Allen had 3 apiecen. Tyler Guy was Sisson’s high scorer with 13.
Washington will play the winner of the Lynn Woods/Brickett game this Friday at 5:45.
The second D2 boys game was another nail biter between Sewell-Anderson and Shoemaker. The score was tied at 13 with less than a minute to play when Sewell’s Gabriel Martin (the game’s high scorer with 8 points) scored the winning basket in 15-13 victory. Ryan Amirault had 4 points for Sewell-Anderson.
Shoemaker’s Jordan Em led the Sharks with 7 points. Ian Brown, Luke Denning and Landon Limoli were also among the scorer’s for Shoemaker.
Sewell takes on the Lincoln-Thomson/Aborn winner Friday at 7.
First-round games resume this Wednesday at Pickering Middle with the Drewicz girls taking on Tracy at 3:15, the Callahan boys playing Hood at 4:30, Lincoln-Thomson and Aborn boys at 5:45 and Brickett and Lynn Woods boys at 7:00. All games are open to the public and admission is just $1.
