LYNN — Four men were indicted by an Essex County Grand Jury on Thursday in two separate Lynn homicide cases.

Darrin Stephens, 51, and John Michelin, 32, were indicted on charges of murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in connection with the beating death of Bret Reilly, 48, on April 9, according to the Essex County District Attorney’s office.

Stephens and Michelin were initially charged with raping and beating Reilly and assaulting another man — Reilly was beaten and sodomized with a broom at a Chase Street apartment and later died from his injuries, authorities said.

Stephens and Michelin allegedly assaulted Reilly with a baseball bat, a broom handle and a guitar after a night of drinking. Police responded to 8 Chase St. for a report of an assault around midnight and found a man bleeding from his hand.

The man told police he’d been struck by a baseball bat and instructed officers to check on a second injured person inside the apartment. Police found Reilly in the basement at the bottom of the steps with a bloody white T-shirt over his head and his pants down to his ankles. Police said there appeared to be blood and trauma to his anal area, court documents show.

Stephens and Michelin are currently being held without bail following their arraignments in Lynn District Court.

Ernest Edwards, 36, and Philip Thompson, 30, were indicted for murder in connection with the shooting death of Pedro Carrillo, 34, outside 89 Curwin Circle in the early morning hours of Aug. 6.

They were arrested on Jan. 17 and ordered held without bail following their arraignments in Lynn District Court.

The indictments move both cases to Essex Superior Court. Arraignment dates have yet to be scheduled.
