Needing a win to keep its state tournament hopes alive at Woburn, the Peabody girls basketball team fell short to a tough Woburn team, 61-34 on Tuesday night.
Catherine Manning scored 12 points with nine rebounds. Kristina Rossignoll added five points and five assists, Serena Laro scored five points with seven boards.
Peabody (9-10) finishes the season tonight (5) against Chelmsford at Woburn.
“We started the season at 1-5,” Tanners coach Stan McKeen said. “We had to win our last four games and we won two. Unfortunately we ran out of gas against Woburn. I’m pleased. The kids played hard all season and never quit. That’s all a coach can ask for.”
GIRLS HOCKEY
St. Mary’s 4, Arlington 2
Codi Butt scored two goals to lead the Spartans. Aylah Cioffi and Mikayla McGrath each scored one.
Goalie Lauren Vaccaro made 17 saves.
“It was a good win against a quality tournament team,” Spartans coach Frank Pagliuca said. “I thought we were a little sluggish in the first. The girls really elevated their level of play in the second and third periods, especially the line of Codi, Jenna (Chaplain) and Zoe (Solomons). We were able to get the pucks to the net and finish opportunities. We also tightened up defensively and limited their chances. Lauren was again very good in goal.”
St. Mary’s (15-3-1) takes on Braintree on Thursday in Hingham.
