The Swampscott boys hockey team would’ve liked to close out the regular season with a victory, but a late Marblehead goal led to a 2-2 draw at Rockett Arena on Saturday.
Drew Olivieri and Zach Elwell each had a goal for Swampscott, while Stevie Santanello and Tim Farley each had one assist. The Big Blue close out the season at 9-5-6 and await their seeding in the state tournament.
Marblehead was led by Brendan Locke, who had one goal and one assist. Will Shull had one goal and Jacob Garfield had one assist. The Magicians (3-12-5) are back at Rockett Arena this afternoon for a game against East Longmeadow.
Winthrop 4, Mansfield 2
Winthrop celebrated its Senior Day with a win on Saturday at Larsen Arena. Tyler Marley led the way with two goals, while Bryce Costin and Sam Yarrow each had one goal.
The Vikings (10-6-2) host Beverly at Larsen tonight.
Lynn 3, Dracut 3
The Clougherty brothers each had three points on the day as the Jets notched a win on Senior Day Saturday afternoon. Mike, the elder Clougherty, made his Senior Day count with two goals and one assist. Brian, a junior, had one goal and two assists, while junior John DiFilippo had two assists.
“We spent almost have the first period in the box with four penalties, something that has been plaguing us all year and went into the break down 2-0,” Jets coach Mike Roberts said. “In the final five minutes we peppered the Dracut goalie with shot after shot but he held strong and was the key factor in Dracut holding onto the tie.”
Lynn (10-4-4) takes on Longmeadow in the Newburyport Bank Classic at Graf Rink in Newburyport this afternoon.
St. John’s Prep 5, St. John’s (Shrewsbury) 2
Matty Tighe had two goals to while David Sacco had one goal and one assist. Brian Carrabes and Zach McKennelly each had one goal and Pat Moran had one assist.
The Prep (12-3-3) is back in action tonight at Bourque Arena when the Eagles go up against cross-town rival Danvers in the 4th Annual Onion Town Classic.
Revere 2, Essex Tech 2
The Patriots kept their tournament hopes alive on Saturday after a draw at Paul Cronin Rink. Mike Goroshko had both goals for Revere. The Patriots (7-7-4) need two more points for a tournament berth with two games to go, starting on Wednesday against Amesbury back at Cronin Rink.
Tewksbury 6, Danvers 2
After notching a 15-1-0 record and going undefeated in Northeastern Conference play over its first 16 games, Danvers now seems to have hit a bit of a downturn. The Falcons haven’t earned a win in three games now and have given up 18 goals in those three games.
Now at 15-3-1, Danvers will try to get back on the right track tonight with a game against St. John’s Prep at Bourque Arena.
Bishop Fenwick 2, Saugus 1
Kasey O’Brien had a goal for the Crusaders, while Tyler Layton and Derek DelVecchio each had one assist. Fenwick (5-10-3) host Peabody at McVan/O’Keefe Memorial Rink this afternoon for the Carlin Cup.
The lone goal for Saugus came from Nick Moore. The Sachems (6-8-5) host Winthrop Thursday at Kasabuski Rink.
St. Mary’s 6, Lowell Catholic 5
The Spartans (12-4-4) travel out to Springfield on Wednesday to face off against Malden Catholic in the first round of the Cardinal Classic at the Olympia Center.
Gloucester 14, Peabody 3
Lucas Cornetta led the Fishermen with four goals, while Colby Mitchell and Harry Marshall each had two goals. Zach Abbott, John Mondello, EJ Field, Jack Sperry and James Vandala each had one goal in the win. Gloucester (10-5-4) will close out its season Wednesday with it hosts Lynnfield at Talbot Rink.
Peabody had three different players score in the loss, with Nick Capillo, Connor McCarron and Caleb Dollin each lighting the lamp. The Tanners (0-17-0) play Fenwick in the Carlin Cup at McVan/O’Keefe Memorial Rink this afternoon.
