SWAMPSCOTT — Two Swampscott residents will be sworn in as firefighters later this month.
Michael Lausier and Matthew Gambale are the latest members of the Fire Department.
“Both of them served in the military, both grew up in town, and both are outstanding candidates,” said Town Administrator Sean Fitzgerald. “Everyone should feel comfortable that they are committed to protecting our community.”
Gambale, 22, serves in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and Lausier, 27, a plumber by trade, was a member of the U.S. Air Force.
Chief Kevin Breen said their hiring brings the force to its full strength with 26 firefighters, four lieutenants, four captains, and a deputy chief.
The department had two openings because of a lieutenant’s retirement and a firefighter out on disability pension. Nine candidates were interviewed.
“They were highly recommended in their background and reference checks and both did very well on the interview,” Breen said. “They will be a great addition to the department.”
