LYNN — Four residents were left homeless and one man was treated for burns after a fire at a Lynn Shore Drive apartment building late Tuesday night.
Lynn firefighters responded to a fire at 285 Lynn Shore Drive around midnight after a resident in a seventh-floor apartment had a problem with his gas stove, which caused it to leak and the gas flashed. This set off a sprinkler system that quickly extinguished the blaze before firefighters arrived, Lynn District Fire Chief Stephen Archer said.
There was no fire damage to the apartment, but there was extensive water damage, Archer said. The fire department used salvage covers to quickly protect contents of the apartment below.
One male resident was treated at Union Hospital for minor flash burn injuries and his apartment is temporarily uninhabitable because of the water damage. Red Cross provided assistance for the displaced residents following the incident, Archer said.
