LYNN — A 65-year-old male clerk at a Broad Street convenience store was able to prevent a robbery on Saturday morning.
Police responded to Jim’s Corner Market, located at 43 Broad St., shortly before 10 a.m. and learned that a man wearing a neoprene mask covering half of his face came into the store with a knife and demanded money, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
The clerk refused to give the suspect any money, which prompted the man to try to go behind the register. But the clerk put a barricade between them, there was a struggle and the suspect appeared to panic and fled the store, Kmiec said.
The clerk had also pressed the store’s panic button as soon as the knife-wielding suspect came in, which alerts police about the robbery, Kmiec said.
Nothing was taken during the incident, which is under investigation. The suspect is described as a white man with a thin build.
