LYNN — Two men were arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion and shooting on Wednesday morning. One of the suspects fled and was found after an hour-long search involving a State Police K9 unit.
Police responded to 16 Massachusetts Ave. shortly after 8:30 a.m. after receiving a call that the back door of the multi-family home had been kicked in, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Initially, the resident wasn’t sure if there was anyone inside the house, but then police were told two suspects had fled the apartment. One of the residents had gone back inside after hearing the door get kicked in, prompting the two suspects to flee the residence, Kmiec said.
The first responding officers were arriving when they heard gunshots and found one of the suspects, Jimmy Lor, 20, who police believed had just fired at least two rounds at a car on Birch Street, Kmiec said.
Lor, of Rowley, was taken into custody at gunpoint after he was found on nearby Birch Street. His preliminary charges are attempted murder, home invasion and multiple firearms offenses, Kmiec said.
Lor shot at a car occupied by several people. The car was struck but no one was hit. At least one of the residents from the Massachusetts Avenue home was in the car, Kmiec said.
Police think that the suspects broke into the home after seeing the residents leave. One was going to work and another one was driving her to work. Shortly after they left, the door was kicked in, but there were still other people home at the time, Kmiec said.
The resident, after getting the call about the break-in, drove back and encountered the suspects on Birch Street, where their car was shot, Kmiec said.
“We believed they targeted these individuals,” Kmiec said. “At this point, we believe that it was definitely targeted and that they are familiar with one another.”
The second suspect, Reymol Martinez, 25, of Lynn, took off running and a foot pursuit ensued. Police set up a perimeter around Fiske Avenue and Chatham Street. Lynn Police held their position while a State Police K9 unit was called in and tracked the suspect into the woods on Fiske Lane, where he was hiding, Kmiec said.
Martinez was arrested and will be charged with home invasion, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, but other charges could be filed, Kmiec said.
“We do believe that they stole a large amount of money, which is still being processed, and other items from the house, which were discarded by Jimmy Lor when the initial officers approached him,” Kmiec said.
Hood and Ingalls elementary schools were put into lockdown while police searched for the second suspect, Kmiec said.
Kmiec said there was definitely a man and woman home at the time of the break-in, and that police believe children were also there.
Lor and Martinez are expected to be arraigned in Lynn District Court on Thursday morning.
