LYNN — A 54-year-old man is under arrest after police say he viciously sexually assaulted a woman and set his house on fire Wednesday night.
The victim, a 49-year-old woman, had gone to a neighbor’s house for assistance following the violent attack. Lynn Police and Fire subsequently responded to a domestic disturbance at 47 Glenwood Road.
She was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital. Her injuries are serious but not considered life-threatening, Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.
Michael Comeau was charged with attempted murder, arson of a dwelling, aggravated rape, mayhem, assault and battery assault to commit a felony, attempt to commit a crime, restraining order violation, assault and battery with a restraining order in effect, nighttime breaking and entering for a felony.
There was a fire in the basement and Comeau, the homeowner, was inside when police and firefighters arrived. Adding to the chaos, two pigs were inside the house. Firefighters were able to get them out of the house and extinguish the blaze, Kmiec said.
