LYNN — A 53-year-old woman identified by police as the driver of the car that struck and injured a motorcyclist on Western Avenue will face motor vehicle charges, police said.
Lt. Michael Kmiec identified the driver as Corinne Dow of Lynn. She is charged with several motor vehicle violations, including leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury, and a stop-sign violation, said Kmiec.
A date for her court arraignment has yet to be set.
The injured motorcyclist, 48-year-old Nick Mastromarino, required a partial leg amputation and sustained other serious injuries, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his sister, Monique Nestor.
She credited bystanders for helping save her brother’s life.
“We will be forever grateful to these bystanders that helped my brother on this tragic evening,” Nestor wrote. “Miraculously, my brother is alive, however tragically, his leg had to be amputated below the knee.”
He suffered from a fractured spine and underwent a seven-hour surgery to stabilize his spine, which is now held together with two very long rods and pins, she wrote.
He has undergone four surgeries so far, and may require additional procedures on his leg in the future.
Shortly after responding to Western Avenue and Park Street at 7:15 p.m., police found a white vehicle near the accident site described by witnesses as fleeing the scene.
An investigation included an interview with Dow, Kmiec said investigators determined by Wednesday that Dow was the operator of the vehicle.
“We got a lot of information from several sources,” Kmiec said.
A member of the Painters and Allied Trades District Council 35, Mastromarino will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time, Nestor said.
