SWAMPSCOTT – Reach Arts Gallery will present a solo exhibition of new works by Stefanie Timmermann. Thought Processes is a photographic journey exploring time and change through images, video, a time machine and interactive pieces.
The exhibition will be on view Dec. 8-17 at Reach Arts, 89 Burrill St. An opening reception will be Friday, Dec. 8, from 7-9 p.m. A Meet the Artist reception is set for Wednesday, Dec. 13, 7-9 p.m. The gallery is otherwise open weekends, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Originally from Germany, Dr. Timmermann now lives and works in Swampscott. She is a self-taught photographer, after a career in cancer research. Her inquisitive, scientific mind translates concepts into the creative realm. She continues to learn from everyone: authors, photographers and Internet bloggers, her wonderful and challenging flickr group studio 26, her current real-life photo club, the Greater Lynn Photographic Association, as well as from many other fantastic artists.
Storytelling and unusual or strange imagery are her passion. She uses Photoshop to bend reality to her wishes, though sometimes the images conspire to come up with an alternative solution. Timmermann often prefers dark and moody scenes, where rich color plays off against a brooding atmosphere. Above all, she immerses her viewers in a slightly off-kilter world that both entertains and questions preconceived notions of beauty and belonging.
