LYNN– For the second year in a row, the Danvers girls soccer team is heading to the Division 2 North final. The No. 4 Falcons cemented their bid in the final with a 2-1 win over No. 8 Arlington in the semifinal on Thursday night at Manning Field.
Danvers’ Hannah Lejeune scored both goals to lead the way.
“Hannah carried us on her back,” Danvers coach Jim Hinchion said. “She was playing at a higher level tonight. When the game was tied, you could tell she wasn’t going to let us go down without another goal. She was at her best tonight.”
Lejeune’s first goal, assisted by Sarah McCarriston, gave Danvers a 1-0 edge in the 34th minute. Arlington tied the game at 1-1 before Lejeune saved the Falcons in the 70th minute with the game-winner. This time, Jess Pelletier dished the assist.
Danvers now shifts its focus to Monday’s final against No. 2 Winchester, which will also be played at Manning Field. Game time is TBA.
“It was a really big win,” Hinchion said. “It was very hard-fought. Arlington fought us every minute of that game. The girls were really happy to be heading to the North final for the second year in a row. We’re not taking it for granted. We’ll prepare for Winchester and we’ll be ready.”
