SAUGUS — Maxine Goodwin, a resident at Chestnut Woods Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, recently celebrated her 100th birthday.

A large group of family and friends gathered  on Oct. 26 to celebrate the milestone birthday.

Born in Montana, Goodwin lived in Chelsea for many years, where she raised two children and later moved to Everett. She has five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Goodwin said the secret to her longevity is that she gave her heart to Jesus when she was 28.

“We have been walking the road together ever since,” she said.
