LYNN — How deep is your love for the disco era?
If you think it’s outta sight, here’s your chance to break out that bell-bottomed catsuit, polyester shirt, Afro wig and platform heels. For one night, disco lives.
“Night Fever!”, the annual major fundraiser for Lynn Museum and LynnArts, will heat up the North Shore social scene on Friday — not Saturday night? — Nov. 17 at the LynnArts building on Exchange Street.
Drew Russo, executive director, said the theme for the annual shindig was inspired by the 40th anniversary of “Saturday Night Fever,” the classic film that starred John Travolta as a bored Brooklyn youth who comes alive dancing at the disco.
“We try to base the fundraiser’s theme each year on a period of history, linked with its music and impact on culture,” said Russo. Two years ago, “Paint It Black” was based on the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones’ Manning Bowl concert. Last year’s “The Best is Yet to Come” had a Rat Pack theme, shaped by the music of Frank Sinatra during his 100th birthday anniversary.
“Night Fever!” will feature music from the ’70s disco era, provided by DJ Seth Albaum, dancing, and food and drink courtesy of the Party Specialist. There will also be a short live auction. Proceeds will benefit Lynn Museum/LynnArts and its programs.
Several LynnArts resident artists will also open their studios to partygoers.
Russo and Carolyn Cole, director of the Downtown Lynn Cultural District, praised the support given by the city’s business community and residents, including Old Neighborhood Foods, Wayne Alarm, Susan Keats, the Boyd Family, General Electric, GE Good Neighbor Fund, Lynn Housing Authority and Neighborhood Development, the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, Community Credit Union, John’s Oil, Nancy and Brian McCarthy, Steve Rima, Maura Brown, Sandra Forziati, and a host of other sponsors and contributors.
So, celebrate good times, c’mon. It’ll be a boogie wonderland on the 17th. Tickets are $100, two for $175, and can be purchased at lynnmuseum.org or by contacting Buffy Pennick at 781-581-6200 or [email protected].
