The Saugus girls soccer team continued to roll through the Northeastern Conference on Tuesday afternoon as the Sachems blanked Revere, 6-0.
Freshman forward Hailey McLaughlin led the offense with a pair of goals. Rachel Nazzaro, Shaylin Groark, Allison LeBlanc and Jamie Rodriguez each scored a goal in the win.
“We came out strong,” Saugus coach Chris Coviello said. “We scored a goal in the first two minutes and then another one quickly after. That really set the tone.”
Goalie Alana Aldred earned the shutout win in net.
Coviello also praised Ashley Walsh, Gabby Moreschi and Kaylee Gibbs for strong performances.
Saugus, still undefeated at 13-0, hosts Salem on Thursday.
“Salem’s a tough opponent,” Coviello said. “They always play us tough.”
GIRLS SOCCER
Peabody 3, Swampscott 2
Haley Bernhardt scored a pair of goals for the Big Blue after Swampscott fell into a 3-0 deficit. Peabody (7-2-2) goals were scored by Jillian Arigo, Ava Marotta and Emily Nelson. Assists for the Tanners were dished by Nelson (two) and Colleen Crotty.
Peabody goalie Jordan Muse tallied five saves.
“The ball possession was great and it allowed for Swampscott to create scoring opportunities,” Big Blue coach Alvi Ibanez said. “Haley had a great game and one that kept the defense from Peabody in check. A great game also from Sydney Clark in the middle of the field, where her big presence denied the quick midfield line from Peabody to get too comfortable.”
Swampscott’s back in action on Thursday at Somerville.
Danvers 2, Marblehead 0
Hannah Lejeune scored both goals for Danvers on assists from Riley Baker and Abby Cash. Mackenzie Gilmore earned her fifth straight shutout for the Falcons (10-2-1).
BOYS SOCCER
Northeast 2, Tech 0
After a scoreless first half, Northeast scored two goals to put the game away in the second period.
“Our guys played hard,” Tech coach Jeremy McKeen said. “We got beat and we just didn’t have enough time to recover. Edin Arreaga played amazing in goal and our defense played great. We just couldn’t find the net.”
McKeen also praised Danny Zacarias and Geo Ramirez for strong performances.
Tech (7-3-2) will aim to bounce back on Thursday night against Shawsheen.
Classical 0, Salem 0
Classical keeper Dan Cortes made six saves for Classical. Albin Asani, Chris Zelaya, Nate Mace Rateau and Ivan Melara led the Rams on defense.
Classical (4-5-3) hosts Everett on Thursday.
Peabody 2, Marblehead 1
Jonathan Alves and Josh Atemkeng scored goals for Peabody. The Tanners improve to 7-5-1 with the win.
VOLLEYBALL
St. Mary’s 3, Pope John 0
St. Mary’s (6-9) made quick work of Pope John with set scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 25-15. Isabella Moretti tallied 10 service points, 10 assists and three aces. Alyssa Grossi added four kills and two blocks.
GOLF
Swampscott 59 1/2, Peabody 12 1/2
For the Big Blue Jake Goldman, Ryan Graciale, Max Pegnato, Steve Santanello, Jack Poska, Aidan Graciale, David Quill and Anthony Moschella all won their matches. Swampscott improved to 6-10.
The Tanners will hope to bounce back on Thursday against Medford in their final match of the season.
Salem 59, English 13
Winners for the Witches included Nick Angeramo, Tom Harrington, Ethan Doyle, Ryan Farley, Troy Zipper, Tim Farley and Clayton Duffin as Salem improved to 18-1 and 14-0 in the Northeastern Conference.
Classical 37 1/2, Winthrop 34 1/2
Travis Ryan won from the No. 1 spot. Brendan Lannon, Andrew Patrie and AJ Luciano also won their matches. Classical (11-4) wraps up its regular season this afternoon against Northeast.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Marblehead 23, Revere 36
For the Magicians, Ethan Snook (16:43) and Oliver Glass (16:44) finished in second and third place respectively.
Swampscott 23.5, Salem 35.5
Swampscott’s Patrick Doucette tied for first place (17:43). Also finishing in the top ten were Evan Lipman (17:38), Will Fraser (18:33), Will Fuller (18:48) and Reece Klusza (19:01). Swampscott’s now 5-1.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Swampscott 15, Salem 50
The top five finishers, Caroline Kinne, Leonie Flackie, Clara Harrington, Elizabeth Green and Gigi Dishman, were all Swampscott runners. Swampscott’s now 4-2.
