REVERE — The Revere Police Department will present Cops for Kids with Cancer a $30,000 check in memory of Officer Daniel Talbot’s 10th year anniversary at 11:30 a.m. today at the Revere Police Community Room, located at 400 Revere Beach Parkway.
Talbot was killed in 2007 while off duty. He was fatally shot in the head during an altercation between off-duty police officers and a local gang in a field behind Revere High School.
The fundraiser was Sept. 29 at the Casa Lucia. A local Revere family already received $5,000 from the charity on the night of the fundraiser, Revere Police said.
Cops for Kids with Cancer is a nonprofit that focuses on raising funds to provide assistance to families of children fighting cancer to improve their quality of life. Funds raised go to people directly involved in the care of children with cancer, with each family typically receiving $5,000, police said.
“It was a great night all around,” said Revere Police Detective David Caramanica, who organized the fundraiser, in a statement. “To honor the memory of Police Officer Dan Talbot and knowing that we raised enough money in one night to donate to six families is very humbling.”
Police Chief James Guido said in a statement: “It is truly an honor to be the chief of such dedicated and caring members of this department. Cops for Kids with Cancer is an outstanding organization and I am so proud of the Revere Police Department and the officers that organized this event.”
Co-organizers of the fundraiser were Officers Caramanica, Billy Soto and Joe Internicola. Other police department members who volunteered that night were Renee Kephart, Kenny Bruker, John Gibson, Rob Impemba, Joe Duca, Karol Monsalve, Daryle Lamonica, Stacey Bruzzese and Nick Fantasia.
