Vets for Vets, a free community event to serve veterans and their families is scheduled for the North Shore Community College’s Lynn campus on Saturday Oct. 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The summit will feature information panels about opportunities to support vets.
Two keynote speakers will be on hand, including Staff Sgt. Kevin Flike, a former Green Beret with two combat deployments to Afghanistan. In 2011, he was wounded in combat, leaving him with challenging injuries and a long recovery. Flike will discuss life lessons learned through his recovery and return to civilian life.
Plt. Sgt. Lawrence F. Kirby served as an advance scout during some of the bloodiest battles of the Pacific campaign of World War II, including Guam and Iwo Jima. He has authored a book about his experiences and will be talking about how his military experience impacts his view of life and service to others.
Participants can join in panel discussions about how veterans and their families can support successful transitions to civilian life. Attendees can meet their local Veteran Service Officer and network with other vets. They will also get a chance to try classes in yoga, mindfulness meditation, acupuncture and learn about how to support other veterans in crisis.
Lunch will be provided to the first 200 attendees.
