LYNNFIELD — A Waltham man accused of spitting in and on a state police cruiser is facing drug charges after a trooper pulled him over and allegedly found five pounds of weed in his car.
Shortly before 4:30 p.m. Thursday, State Trooper James Maloney spotted a blue Mercedes driven by Jason Hunter, 41, speeding into the Goodwin Circle rotary. After running a check on the car and determining that Hunter was driving with a suspended license, Maloney gave chase and pulled the Mercedes over.
Hunter allegedly refused to show a driver’s license, but did show a state ID card and acknowledged that his license was suspended, according to a state police press release. When asked to get out of his car, Hunter reached for his right hip, which led to the trooper to arrest him and put him in the back of the cruiser.
In the Mercedes, police found a small amount of leafy vegetable substance and a grinder with marijuana residue in the center console, according to the release. In the back seat, Maloney found five one-pound, vacuum-sealed bags of what was believed to be marijuana.
While police were searching Hunter’s car, Hunter allegedly managed to open the plastic window dividing the front and rear seats and began spitting over the screen of the mounted laptop, the dashboard, and the windshield. Maloney took Hunter out of the cruiser so he could clean up the saliva, but Hunter wasn’t done spitting, according to police, as he let fly saliva at the outside of the cruiser.
Hunter continued to be verbally hostile while he was taken to the barracks for booking, making statements about the trooper and police officers in general, according to police.
Hunter was charged with operating with a suspended license, subsequent offense; possession of a Class D narcotic with intent to distribute, subsequent offense; and malicious destruction of property under $250.
