LYNN — As police continue to investigate a shooting on Green Street from last week, the “devastated” wife of the victim is offering a cash reward for anyone who can identify the two suspects.
A 39-year-old Topsfield man sustained non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot in the area of 124 Green St. on Sunday, Aug. 27 at approximately 2:41 a.m.
The man was sitting in his car in the parking lot when two men ran up to him with guns. The victim was robbed of $50 cash and his cellphone and then “viciously shot” while he was in his seat, Lynn Police said.
Katerina, the wife of the shooting victim, who asked to only be identified by her first name, said she was offering a $1,000 reward to find his shooters and to help make the streets a little safer.
“It’s a little frightening to think that there are people out there that can cause harm to people you know and others,” Katerina said. “It devastates me that this happened to him because it just shouldn’t happen to anyone.”
Police released a graphic video of the incident, which showed that the victim was shot at close range multiple times. He was struck once and sustained two graze wounds.
Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said police don’t have much to go on as far as locating the two suspects.
“Obviously, being such a violent attack, we’re still hoping to get some leads on it,” Kmiec said.
Katerina said her husband, who grew up in Lynn, was supposed to meet her the night of the shooting. She said he gets out of work late and they were going to meet up at his friend’s house.
Katerina said she knows her husband well, and that he’s a tough guy — when someone attempted to rob him on a prior occasion, he yelled at the person, who subsequently ran away. On Green Street, she said she could have seen him yelling at the suspects and aggravating them enough to shoot him after they robbed him.
She said her husband is out of the hospital and recovering. Katerina said he was hit in his stomach and was grazed by a couple of bullets. She said the video released by police was too much for her to watch.
“He is very lucky to be alive,” Katerina said.
