LYNN– The 2017 Shoe City Classic tipped off yesterday evening at the basketball courts at Lynn’s Marian Gardens. The Shoe City Classic, in its 25th edition this year, will include full slates of action on both Saturday and Sunday.
All games are scheduled to be played at Marian Gardens. The tournament will move to the indoor courts at Fecteau-Leary in the event of rain.
The tournament began in 1992 as the “Hoganz Basketball Classic.” It switched to its current name in 2012 when former organizer Fred Hogan stepped down and current organizer Simmie Anderson took over the role.
Friday evening’s schedule included five games, with the first being played at 5 p.m. and the final game of the night tipping off at 9 p.m. The action resumes bright and early on Saturday morning, with the first scheduled game of the day beginning at 9 a.m. A total of 13 games are scheduled for Saturday, with the final game tipping off at 9 p.m.
The tournament concludes on Sunday, with the first game scheduled at 9 a.m. The classic will crown its four champions on Sunday, as the Middle School Division final is scheduled for 4 p.m., the High School Division final is scheduled for 5:15 p.m., the College Division final is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. and the Men’s Division final is scheduled for 7:45 p.m.
