SWAMPSCOTT — The Swampscott Rotary Club recently inducted its new president, Marilyn Jarvis.
Jarvis was inducted during the club’s Installation and awards dinner earlier this month, which kicked off its 92nd year.
“We welcome Marilyn as president and look forward to her bright, cheerful disposition and enthusiastic leadership during this Rotary year,” the rotary club said in a press release.
Outgoing president Toyuwa Harris Newton was recognized by the club for “his extraordinary work in leading us this past year,” the rotary club said.
He was also honored by being made a Paul Harris Fellow by the Swampscott Rotary Club. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary, and the designation is one of the club’s highest honors.
Swampscott Rotary has been providing “service above self,” which is the club’s motto, by providing scholarships for deserving local students, working on numerous local projects, and supporting Rotary International’s many initiatives, such as the drive to eradicate polio from the world, which is nearly completed, according to a club release.
This year, the club has awarded more than $18,000 in scholarships. Some of this year’s scholarship recipients and their families were hosted at the installation dinner. The club also recognized a number of individual Rotarians for going above and beyond with their efforts this year, according to a club release.
