A five-run bottom of the eighth was the difference as the North Shore Navigators suffered another heartbreaking defeat as they fell to the Bristol Blues, 7-2, on the road in Bristol. The Navs drop to 1-10 on the season while the Blues are now 5-8.
The Navigators took an early lead in the first. After Daane Berezo’s (Virginia Commonwealth) single and walk from Bristol starter Malachi Edmond (New Mexico) to Tyler Kapuscinski (Marist), North Shore’s Alex Brickman (Siena College) smacked a two-run double giving the Navs an early 2-0 lead.
The Blues chipped away and tied the game. In the bottom of the third Chris Davis (Princeton) cracked a RBI single, scoring Mark Tumosa (Umass Lowell) and cutting the Navs lead to 2-1. In the bottom of the fifth, Chris Davis again came through for the Blues, this time smacking an RBI triple, scoring Mitch Williams (Fairfield) and tying the game at 2-2. Davis finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs for the Blues.
The Blues scored five unanswered runs thanks in part to a sac fly from Mitch Guilmette (CCSU) scoring Davis. Cooper Mrowka (Umass Amherst) followed with an RBI ground-rule double scoring Max Goione (Siena), Ben Maycock wanted in on the fun as he laced a 2-run single scoring Mrowka and Jake Frasca (Sacred Heart). Maycock later scored on a RBI single from Jeff Shanfeldt (Lehigh) that made it a 7-2 ballgame.
Some notables for the Navigators were Alex Brickman (Siena), who went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Brickman is now hitting .281 on the season. Teammate Nick Fuhrmann (Frederick CC) went 2-for-4 with a double.
