The Lynn Tech baseball team improved to 6-9 on the season with a 6-4 win over Pope John Wednesday.
Mike Brown got the win on the mound for the Tigers, giving up just two earned runs with four strikeouts in five innings of work. Kenny Moore led the way offensively with three RBI, while Chris Tejeda contributed two RBI.
Tech will play the second half of their home-and-home series with Pope John on the road in Everett on Monday afternoon.
Salem 5, Saugus 3
Behind a big day at the plate from Loany Rosario and great pitching from Ricardo Troncoso, the Witches pulled out a win at Salem State on Wednesday. Rosario went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, a triple, two runs scored and an RBI, while Troncoso pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters. Matthew Silva also went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brian Polacios went 3-for-3. Salem (9-8) will take on Lynn English on Friday.
Danvers 3, Swampscott 0
Luke Marshall threw seven innings, while allowing three earned runs and three hits. Swampscott was quiet offensively, with just two hits on the afternoon. Sean Lahrizi went 1-for-2 and AJ Venuti went 1-for-3 at the plate. Swampscott (9-7) will host Fenwick on Saturday. A win gives the Big Blue a spot in the state tournament.
Marblehead 5, Malden 1
The Magicians (9-6) got a great pitching performance from Beau Dana on Wednesday, who got the win after tossing a one-hitter through four innings with six strikeouts. James McCarthy went 2-for-3 with a single, a triple, a stolen base, a run scored and an RBI.
Marblehead will play a makeup game on the road in Somerville this afternoon.
Beverly 4, Revere 3
Tim McCarthy notched the game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth for Beverly, while Mike Urbanski got the win on the mound in relief.
The Panthers (11-3) will play Gloucester at home on Friday.
SOFTBALL
Peabody 6, Gloucester 2
Tianna Dawe got the win on the mound after tossing a complete game for Peabody, giving up two runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts. Kelsie Blake helped lead the way on offense, going 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The Tanners (8-6) will take on Saugus this afternoon as they continue to try to qualify for the state tournament.
Beverly 18, Revere 2 (F/5)
Julia Pitman had a big day at the plate for the Panthers, going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Maddy Jalbert went 3-for-3 with two RBI, Marlee Hamor went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI and Cori Coults went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Rona Scott got the win on the mound, tossing a complete game and striking out eight batters. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate. With the win, Beverly improves to 11-3.
Saugus 5, Salem 0
Caitlyn Wood notched her first career varsity shutout on Wednesday, tossing a complete-game two-hitter and striking out 11 batters. Ashley Shaw and Alex Almquist both went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Emma Howard, DJ Munafo, Katie Italiano and Taylor Bogdanski each went 1-for-3.
The Sachems (7-6) will take on Peabody at home this afternoon.
St. Mary’s 3, Chelmsford 1
The Spartans improved to 14-1 on the year behind a solid pitching performance from Mia Nowicki, who struck out 14 batters. Talia Smaller went 3-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
St. Mary’s will play again on Sunday when they finish a postponed game against Austin Prep that will start in the sixth inning.
Danvers 3, Swampscott 1
Alexcia Glynos tossed a complete-game one-hitter for Danvers, striking out 16 batters. Swampscott fell to 9-5 and will play Gloucester on Friday.
Bishop Fenwick 15, Arlington Catholic 7
The Crusaders (5-7) got a solid pitching performance from Natalie Medros, who tossed a complete game and gave up seven runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts. Courtney Norton had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and three runs scored. Lucianna Mastromatteo went 2-for-4 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored, while Lauren Wilkinson went 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
Marblehead 14, Malden 1
Charlotte Plakans got her 12th win of the year after one giving up one run on four hits while striking out five. Mercedes Pelletier went 3-for-3 with two triples and a double and four RBI. Hannah Garthe went 2-for-2 with three RBI, Sammy Treff went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Ashley Stiles went 2-for-4.
The Magicians (12-3, 11-2 NEC) will take on North Reading next.
Chelsea 20, Lynn Tech 0
The Tigers got solid performances from Alondra Sanchez, Shyla Jackson and Mehren Hueston in the loss. Tech will play Presentation of Mary on Monday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 12, Dracut 9
Lauren Wolff (four goals) and Olivia Kiricoples (three goals, one assist) led the way in point for the Tanners on Wednesday. Colleen Crotty had two goals and one assist, Sarah Buckley had one goal and one assist and Chloe Gizzi and Jillian Amirault each had one goal. On defense, Alyssa Shashaty, Catherine Manning, Kelly Crotty and Carla Pantania all played great games. Goalkeeper Gianna Denisco had 13 saves in the win for Peabody (13-2).
St. Mary’s 13, Mystic Valley 12
The Spartans fell behind 11-5 at the half, but overcame the slow start and buckled down on defense to earn the hard-fought win.
“The second half, everyone dug deep and proved they wanted to win,” St. Mary’s assistant coach Briana Marotta said. “Today, the game was won because of heart, not skill, which are sometimes the best-won games.”
Brittany McPherson played an excellent second half, keeping the Spartans in the game. Liz Weisse scored five goals, as did Codi Butt. Mady Hentosh added two and Riley Lynch scored a goal as well.
BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 8, Masconomet 7
Pat Keefe had two goals to lead the way for St. John’s in a crucial win to keep the Eagles’ tournament hopes alive on Wednesday. Jack Rickards and Tim Tyrrell each had one goal and one assist, while KJ Sarni, Zach Harde, Wes Rockett and Ethan Barnard each had one goal. Jake Surette contributed two assists and goalkeeper Mitch Carpenter had 12 saves.
The Eagles (7-8) will close up their Catholic Conference schedule on Friday afternoon when they take on BC High at home.
BOYS TRACK
Lynn Classical 84, Saugus 50
Elie Kalambayi was a triple-winner for Classical on Wednesday, winning the long jump (19 feet, 7 3/4 inches) the triple jump (41-8) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:04.2). Other winners for the Rams were Emmanuel Kalambayi in the 400 (1:04.5), Samson Srey in the 110 hurdles (17.8), Gilley Kabamba in the two-mile (10:26), Jose Gomez in the discus (80-9) and Chase Buono in the javelin (137-0). The 4×400 relay team, made up of Elie and Emmanuel Kalambayi, Ishmael Johnson and Dajon Wilson, also got a win with a time of 3:38.9.
The Rams (4-2) will run in the NEC Championships on Saturday.
Saugus had a triple-winner in Nick Silva, who took the 100 (11.3), the 200 (23.4) and the high jump (5-8). Joe Alba won the 800 (2:21.8), Delvin Duncan won the shot put (32-2) and the 4×100 relay team of Alba, Kyle Lennan, Marvens Jean and Bruno Auzec also took first place.
GIRLS TRACK
Saugus 85, Lynn Classical 50
Gianna Filaretos was a triple-winner while Shaylin Groark and Haley Dennis were double-winners for the Sachems on Wednesday. Filaretos took the 100 hurdles, the high jump and the triple jump, while Groark won the 400 hurdles and the discus and Dennis won the 100 and the 200. Other winners for Saugus were Jenni Costa in the 400 and Ailyn Minaya in the shot put.

Marblehead 80, Gloucester 47
Marblehead (4-2) got wins from Chase Davies in the 100, Sarah Caulfield in the triple jump (35-1), Gabriella Mark in the long jump (17-11), Hannah Flores in the discus (81-3), Chloe Ferrucci in the shot put (31-7) and Corinne Ahern in the javelin (85-3).
