PEABODY — Davary Xavier Jones, 20, was arrested for allegedly knocking down and robbing a 70-year-old Peabody man.
At approximately 11 a.m. Thursday, the victim was walking down Main Street toward Central Street when he was knocked down and robbed of his wallet. He had his pants ripped and was bleeding from a laceration to his knee, Peabody Police Capt. Dennis Bonaiuto said.
The victim was able to provide a description of the suspect, who had fled on foot, which was broadcast to other officers. Officers Andrew Long and Javier Sanchez saw Jones, conducted a brief investigation and grabbed him on Walnut Street shortly after the robbery, Bonaiuto said.

Jones, of Peabody, was charged with unarmed robbery and assault and battery on a person over 60/disabled with injury. He also had a probation warrant out for his arrest for threats, Bonaiuto said.
“It was a serious incident that was brought to a swift conclusion and apprehension of a suspect,” Bonaiuto said.
The department’s new K9, Caine, a German shepherd handled by Officer Corey Salvo, was utilized, and they were able to find the wallet. The pair had just completed several months of training, Bonaiuto said.
Sgt. David Bonfanti, Detectives Stephanie Lane and DJ Murphy and Officer Michael Donovan also assisted with the incident.
