MEDFORD — A Lynn man turned himself into police Saturday afternoon after he allegedly assaulted an Uber driver in Medford and stole his car earlier that same day, according to a statement from Medford police.
Nicholas Fabrizio, 33, was arrested and charged with carjacking and assault and battery. He turned himself into police at 3:45 p.m. after speaking with detectives on the phone, the statement said.
Police responded to 343 Salem St. shortly after 2:30 a.m. and were told by the victim that he picked up four people in Boston, but the passengers became unruly during the ride. He pulled over and asked them to leave the car. Two people complied, but Fabrizio allegedly became combative and assaulted the driver, the statement said.
After the alleged assault, Fabrizio drove off in the victim’s car, with a woman still inside. The stolen vehicle was recovered in Malden, the statement said.
The victim was treated and released from the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
The investigation is ongoing. Fabrizio will be arraigned in Somerville District Court on Monday.
