MEDFORD — It’s a milestone birthday for the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) this year, and its members and leaders are looking tonight for more local and area residents to join the push for healthier and more accessible waterways and parkland.
Friends of the Mystic River (FOMR) and MyRWA host a “Mystic Meet and Greet” at 7 p.m. at the West Medford Community Center, 111 Arlington St. in Medford.
“The vision for the watershed is one of healthy waters and world-class parks,” MyRWA executive director Patrick Herron said. “The elements of healthy waters and world-class parks include clean water; high quality habitat; resiliency to climate change; beautiful, accessible parks and paths; and you.”

MyWRA celebrates its 45th anniversary this year and marks what Herron called “a lot of exciting things are happening in and around the Mystic River in Medford.”
He said the Mystic Greenways initiative is closing the gaps in the multi-use trail network and a new herring monitoring program is being introduced in the Medford schools,” Herron said.
Today’s meeting includes short presentations, a question and answer session and information on how to get involved in both organizations.
Friends of the Mystic River is a Medford-based community organization focused on the enjoyment, protection and enhancement of the Mystic River in Medford since 1995. The Mystic River Watershed Association was founded to protect and restore natural resources in the 22-community watershed, which covers 76 square miles extending from Wilmington to Winthrop and includes the communities of Malden, Medford, Everett and Melrose.
