MALDEN — Malden residents who would like to give some input on planning on the present and future use and maintenance of the city’s open space, parks and other recreational sites will have that opportunity by attending a public forum Thursday, March 9 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Salemwood K-8 School, 529 Salem St.
A 13-member municipal committee is working with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC) to update the city of Malden’s Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) which was last updated in 2009. The existing plan has covered the period from 2009-2016 and expired at the end of last year.
Malden’s Open Space and Recreation Committee has been tasked by Malden Mayor Gary Christenson to identify the city’s park and recreational assets and request and accumulate feedback from the community in guiding the city in future decisions and actions regarding open space and recreational planning.

The mayoral-appointed committee is made up of representatives of organizations and community groups, city departments responsible for maintaining and overseeing the city’s park and local residents.
In addition to the public forum, city officials are hosting an online survey that is available on the city’s website: cityofmalden.org. The survey is available in several languages.
