LYNNFIELD — Gregory Hurray has been selected as the interim principal of the Summer Street Elementary School. The change in leadership at Summer Street followed an incident on a METCO school bus in November that led to Jennifer DiBiase’s resignation.
Timothy Doyle, school committee chairman, said Hurray has more than four decades of educational experience and started on the job last week.
School Superintendent Jane Tremblay and Director of Teaching and Learning Kevin Cyr served as acting principals after DiBiase’s resignation.
“He’s really listening to teachers and students,” said Tremblay about Hurray. “I could not be happier to have him in this transitional period … We’re looking forward to smooth sailing for the rest of the year.”
Hurray worked predominantly in Newton and for some time in Needham before coming to Lynnfield, said Tremblay.

Tremblay said that having faculty who put students first made the transition between principals much easier.
Hurray’s background in public education extends to service as an assistant principal and as an English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum coordinator, said Tremblay.
She said Hurray helped created Common Core standards with the state Department of Education.
Tremblay confirmed that Hurray will act as principal until the end of the year.
