NAHANT–Firefighters and other emergency responders rescued a kitesurfer on Sunday afternoon.
A windsurfer in distress was reported to the Nahant Fire Department at about 2:48 p.m., according to Nahant Firefighter Nick Papagelis. The man began kitesurfing on the Nahant Beach side and ran into some trouble. He was tangled on a line from his kite when responders made contact with him, Papagelis added.
The rescue took place on Short Beach, about 100 yards off the point of Little Nahant and Wilson roads. The jet ski was launched by Papagelis and his fellow firefighter, Josh Mahoney, from Short Beach and the man was pulled to safety in minutes. Another boat had been launched from the Nahant Beach side. The man wasn’t injured and no emergency medical response was needed, Papagelis said.
