MARBLEHEAD — At least three buildings were egged between Sunday night and Monday morning, with residents reporting the incidents Monday morning.
According to the police log, there was a report of a store egged at 8:57 a.m. Monday. A caller reported her store was egged overnight.
There was a report of a building egged at 11:08 a.m. Monday on Washington Street. The owner of Bobbles & Lace called and reported the building was egged, according to the police log.
There was also a report of a house egged at 12:52 p.m. Monday on Lee Street. A caller reported damage to her house due to eggs, with the incident occurring overnight. An officer noted in the police log that houses on Union and Hooper streets were also affected. According to the log, a house on Washington Street was also hit with paintballs.
“Eggs don’t typically make a lot of noise when they hit things,” Marblehead Police Chief Robert Picariello said of the incidents being reported the following day.
Picariello said people wouldn’t typically hear their house or building being egged and would report the incident when they saw the damage the next morning. He said eggs don’t typically make a big mess, but an egging is “annoying.”
“Eggs can do a fair amount of damage to paint and buildings,” Picariello said.
Picariello said the vandalism was to “random places that were egged.” He said there’s not much more to the incidents other than that “it happened.” He said there didn’t seem to be any connection between the eggings, but the total distance between the affected places was “inside of a mile or less.”
If someone was found to be responsible for an egging, the technical arrest charge would be malicious destruction of property, Picariello said.
