LYNN — Shootings on Thursday and Friday resulted in one arrest and two victims being treated at nearby hospitals for gunshot wounds, with one of the victims admitted in critical condition, Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly said.
On Thursday, Feb. 4, Lynn Police responded to Union Hospital at about 8:50 p.m. and found a man in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest. The gunshot wound appears to have gone through the man’s arm and into his chest, Donnelly said.
After an investigation that was going on all weekend, Lynn Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Robert Loper, 19, of 111 Grant St., Apt. 1. Loper was arrested and charged on a warrant for assault with intent to murder Monday at about 3 p.m., Donnelly said.
Loper will be arraigned in Lynn District Court today, Donnelly said.
The victim is a 22-year-old Lynn resident and was in stable condition on Monday. He had been medflighted from Union Hospital to Mass General Hospital. He had been unconscious all weekend, Donnelly said.
After responding to the hospital on Thursday, police learned that the shooting took place in the area of Grant and Rock streets. Police learned that the victim was the passenger of a motor vehicle and was the victim of a robbery, Donnelly said.
Two Hispanic males approached the car, one of the men had a handgun and the gun went off, resulting in the passenger of the vehicle being shot. The suspects then fled away on foot. From there, the driver of the motor vehicle immediately drove to Union Hospital, Donnelly said.
The shooting is still under investigation and there are no other suspects at this time, Donnelly said.
On Friday, Feb. 5 at approximately 1 p.m., Lynn Police responded to a shooting victim on Essex Street. The male victim, a 17-year-old Lynn resident, was found with a single gunshot wound to the left hip, Donnelly said.
The victim was alert and had non-life threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, Donnelly said.
Three black males fled the scene in the direction of Chestnut Street. A person saw one of the males tuck a firearm under a minivan and officers recovered a Bernardelli .380 firearm, Donnelly said.
The shooting is still under investigation and there are no suspects at this time, Donnelly said.
