As a new year rolls around, it is the time for reflection on the events of 2015. For some, those events are chronicled in The Item’s police log.
We present some of our favorite entries from the past year.
To the police, thank you for all that you do.
Marblehead, Jan. 18
A Neptune Road caller reported returning home at 12:30 p.m. Sunday and finding a bunch of items in the house smashed. Officer reports it looks like an animal may have gotten inside home as animal urine and feces found throughout house and nothing appears missing. The caller reports finding a large rat or squirrel in the cabinets.
Saugus, Jan. 27
A report of a dispute between a plow driver and resident over plowing conditions, which resulted in the resident throwing a shovel at plow truck, at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday at 5 Enmore Road.
Saugus, Jan. 27
A report of a goose trapped inside the snowbank at 12:14 p.m. Tuesday at Charlie’s Pizzeria on Main Street. Animal Control Officer reports unable to locate the goose.
Marblehead, Jan. 29
A Gregory Street man reported at 10:16 a.m. Thursday that his neighbor has a big, burly guy with a rough edge who has plowed all the snow in front of the caller’s house, and resident said he is elderly, has health problems and doesn’t want to shovel more because “some Neanderthal doesn’t see what he’s doing.” Resident wondering how to approach his neighbor to prevent this from happening and said he will call DPW to see if they can shovel it out a bit overnight.
Marblehead, Feb. 3
A Lafayette Street resident called 911 and asked if she could be picked up at the “looney bin” at 9:55 a.m. Tuesday. Resident explained she is soaking wet because she dropped a glass of water on herself and no one has been in the room since 6 a.m.
Marblehead, Feb. 11
A Whittier Road caller reported the street is slippery and looks like it is a third-world country at 2:34 p.m. Wednesday. Caller reports four calls to the DPW have been unsatisfactory and there are four doctors on his street.
Marblehead, Feb. 17
A caller requested that the Neck be made one-way, and said she was going to have all her friends call to make the same suggestion at 8:51 a.m. Tuesday.
Marblehead, Feb. 24
A Hines Court caller reported a woman was banging on her door and saying she wants a hug at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday. Caller reports the woman outside is drunk.
Saugus, Feb. 26
A Stevens Avenue resident reported his neighbor is outside “somewhere” with a loudspeaker giving out his personal information at 1:33 a.m. Thursday. Officer reports neighbor denies all allegations.
Marblehead, Feb. 27
A Front Street caller reported he’s been on the floor for three days at 10:47 a.m. Friday. Officer reports caller “ran out of alcohol and saw no need to get off the floor.”
Marblehead, March 10
A Washington Street caller reported at 9:48 p.m. Tuesday that somebody has been ringing his doorbell and then leaving “takeout boxes with dog poop” at the door. Same incident occurred three weeks ago.
Peabody, March 17
A caller at Lucky Dogs Daycare reported a man acting suspicious in the building and eating dog treats at 6:13 p.m. Tuesday.
Marblehead, March 18
A report of a person locked inside — not outside — her vehicle at 8:31 p.m. Wednesday on Ticehurst Lane.
Peabody, March 20
A caller reports there are peacocks blocking the road at 2:22 p.m. Friday on Farm Avenue.
Marblehead, March 20
A Broughton Road caller reported two individuals climbing up his trees and messing with power lines at 8:08 p.m. Friday.
Saugus, March 31
A report of a student biting other students at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at Veterans Memorial Elementary School.
Marblehead, April 3
A School Street caller reported she heard a noise and found someone in her apartment at 10:04 p.m. Friday. Individual stated, “sorry, I thought someone else lived here,” and walked away.
Marblehead, April 9
A Watson Street resident reported at 2:29 p.m. Thursday that she wanted to get a restraining order because she learned about them by watching court shows on television and has a crazy neighbor who is renovating a condo in the building. Caller says woman comes in unannounced to her unit, always is complaining about parking and, caller believes, is working toward taking over her unit.
Nahant, May 5
A report of suspicious activity, regarding an elderly man standing in his underwear in front of the Nahant Post Office Tuesday at 10:36 a.m.
Marblehead, May 7
A caller was concerned that an armed police officer was acting as a crossing guard at Village Street and West Shore Drive, afraid that it would scare the children at 7:47 a.m. Thursday.
Marblehead, May 25
A report of a drone striking two people at 9:19 a.m. Monday at Pleasant and Washington streets.
Marblehead, May 26
A report of a neighbor placing a board with nails sticking out of it and other items to prevent cars from parking in front of her house at 2:44 p.m. Tuesday on High Street.
Marblehead, June 4
A Manataug Trail resident reports that his neighbor is using chairs as space savers in a public parking space he has been using at 5:26 p.m. Thursday.
Swampscott, June 7
A report of a turkey inside the bed of a blue pickup truck at 8:27 a.m. Sunday at CVS Pharmacy on Paradise Road.
Swampscott, June 11
A Salem Street resident reported some type of animal is in her home at 1:12 p.m. Thursday. Officer reports fisher cat was removed from home.
Nahant, July 3
A report of a white male in his underwear at 6:52 p.m. Friday at Tides Restaurant on Wilson Road.
Marblehead, Aug. 2
A report at 6:11 p.m. Sunday, caller states that neighbor is in the yard with an amplifier, electric guitar and microphone playing rock star. She said, “this follows very abusive, inconsiderate neighbor behavior from last night.”
Peabody, Aug. 15
A report of a disturbance at 2:44 a.m. Saturday at 5 Sabino Farm Road. Parties had pranked a roommate with a mannequin head.
Saugus, Sept. 13
A report of a raccoon chasing people at 9:16 a.m. Sunday on Broadway. Animal control responded.
Marblehead, Sept. 19
A report of a complaint by a person stuck in traffic at 8:21 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Humphrey Street and Lafayette Street. A furious man called saying he was stuck in traffic for 25 minutes. He said he had things to accomplish today and he could not do them because he was stuck in traffic. He indicated how the detail for the road race should be conducted by alternating runners and then traffic. He added that he had to get to the Farmers Market so he could make money, describing the situation with a profanity.
Marblehead, Sept. 22
A report of a road rage complaint at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Pleasant and Humphrey streets. A caller reported she was heading outbound on Pleasant and after the lights at MHS, there was a woman standing in the road looking at a turkey. The caller honked at the woman, who then got in her car and pulled up next to the caller and started swearing. The caller said her children were in the car with her and were very scared by the encounter. The caller wanted to make sure the woman wasn’t a fugitive or a felon. They have since gone in separate directions.
Marblehead, Sept. 29
A report of a fight at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday at Jersey Street and Stone Terrace. A caller reported that she witnessed a physical alteration between Recycling Department and Garbage Truck staff. She reported that they were fighting on the street. The Board of Health was notified.
Marblehead, Oct. 6
A report of a man defecating in a neighbor’s yard at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday on Bartlett Street.
Marblehead, Oct. 12
A report of harassment at 12:55 p.m. Monday on Sevinor Road. A caller reported that her neighbor was harassing her by throwing leaves in her garden.
Peabody, Oct. 13
A report of a raccoon in a dumpster at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday. The caller was advised to put in a 2-by-4 plank to make a ramp for the animal to exit on its own.
Saugus, Oct. 14
A report of a raccoon in the roadway with people congregating around it at 7:24 p.m. Wednesday on Lincoln Avenue. An officer reported the animal had gone into the property of 4 Seagirt Ave. and does not have much longer to live. A caller reported the injured animal was on the porch of 286 Lincoln Ave. Animal control captured the animal and transported it to the pound.
Swampscott, Oct. 16
A report of a turkey running around at 8:05 a.m. Friday at Panera Bread at 433 Paradise Road.
Nahant, Oct. 24
A report of vandalism at 7:22 a.m. Saturday at East Point Parking Lot. A caller stated there is graffiti on the East Point Parking lot and trash barrel in front of the Northeastern gate. An officer reported “Robin Hood Lives” was written on the ground in front of the gate in an unknown substance; at 10:47 p.m. Sunday at 6 Goddard Drive. A caller reported coming home after a couple of days away and found the back window to one of their vehicles busted out.

A report of suspicious activity at 1:13 a.m. Sunday in the vicinity of Pleasant Street. A caller reported hearing something in the basement, which turned out to be a large raccoon.
Marblehead, Oct. 25
A report of a stolen pumpkin at 11:51 a.m. Sunday on Hawkes Street. A caller reported someone stole her giant pumpkin. She refused police response but wanted police to be aware for future incidents.
Saugus, Oct. 26
A report of birds at 2:07 p.m. Monday at 18 Carr Road. A caller said there were birds flying around his screen room. Animal Control was dispatched.
Marblehead, Nov. 6
A report of smashing pumpkins at 9:45 p.m. Friday at Sewall and School streets. A caller reported she just had six youths on her property smashing two pumpkins. She said she has them on video and one was described as wearing a ghost costume. One had a megaphone claiming to be the police.
Marblehead, Nov. 9
A report of a woman moving trash at 10:37 p.m. Monday on Nicholson Street. A caller complained of an ongoing neighbor dispute regarding the movement of trash from one place to another. She also accused the neighbor of putting cat feces on her car.
Saugus, Nov. 10
A report of a disturbance at 7 p.m. Tuesday at 6 Cedar Glen Circle. A caller reported he hired a landscaper from Craigslist and he does not want his services anymore because he believes he is a drug dealer.
Marblehead, Nov. 23
A report of trash cans at 7:59 a.m. Monday on Pleasant Street. A caller reported someone had put trash cans next to a building to attempt to get on the roof of the building.
Peabody, Nov. 29
A report of a disturbance at 7:32 p.m. Sunday at Andrew’s Beauty Salon at 168 Washington St. A caller reported a man came by early knocking on the door looking for cigarettes, called her names and took some turkey. She stated that the man was not thankful for the extra turkey and cranberry sauce he was given.
Marblehead, Dec. 1
A report of an unwanted mail package at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday on Beacon Street. A caller reported she received a weird book about Adolf Hitler via Amazon. She contacted Amazon, who were only able to provide the name of the sender, who is unknown to her. She wanted the incident reported in case something like this should happen again.
Marblehead, Dec. 9
A report of a dingy in the middle of the road at 2:51 p.m. Wednesday at Elizabeth and Richard roads. A caller reported that there was a dingy on wooden horse legs in the middle of the road and she said it made her angry because the roads can’t be plowed with it in the road.
Swampscott, Dec. 20
A report of motor vehicle vandalism at 5:51 p.m. Sunday at 82 Millett Road. A caller reported someone threw a bottle of urine all over his car and this is part of a pattern of harassment over the last several months.
Marblehead, Dec. 26
A report of Santa outside at 8:29 p.m. Saturday on Hereford Road. A caller stated she received a call from some kids asking if she had a truck. She said yes. The caller then said someone was syphoning gas from her tank. When she went outside to look, there was a huge, inflatable Santa Claus near the truck.
