LYNN — The Lynn Classical co-ed swimming and diving team opened its regular season in style on Thursday, topping Revere, 93-82, at Lynn Tech.
After coming in first in the Northeastern Conference diving event last week, Classical sophomore Sarah Sirois got the Rams’ first meet started on the right note by winning the diving portion.
The swimmers were just as impressive for Classical. The Rams are looking to senior captain Kevin Chasse to be a leader this season, and he showed why he’s so important, winning the 50-meter freestyle and the 500 free.
Freshman Carly Mendonca also a big part of the Rams’ victory, earning a win in the 200 free and starting off the winning 200 medley relay team that included Eric Macorri and Mehdi Bakhouch and was anchored by Chasse.
Macorri, a junior, also had a big day, winning the 200 individual medley and also leading the winning 200 freestyle relay team that included Alex Pedro, Bakhouch, and anchor Craig Mordaunt. Mordaunt also won the 100 free, and was part of the first-place 400 freestyle relay that included Mendonca, Harrison Seitz, and anchor Chasse.
Classical’s Cameron Marcinko wasn’t a first-place finisher, but improved on his personal best 100 freestyle time by three seconds.
“It’s a terrific improvement,” Classical coach Denise Silva said of Marcinko’s 1:02.54 time in the 100 free.
The Revere swim and dive team dropped to 1-1 on the season, but with a big turnout for the team this year and some returning talent, the Patriots have the ability to make a splash in the NEC.
“The Revere team has really grown, it’s wonderful,” said Silva. “This was a very competitive meet. There were a lot of great swimmers in that pool, and a lot of close races.”
