NAHANT — Starting Dec. 20, the Town of Nahant will enforce its three-month winter parking policy that requires all vehicles to be parked off the street between midnight and 6 a.m. unless a parking waiver is issued.
The parking policy will be in effect until March 20.
Residents can file a parking waiver application at the Nahant Police Station if they do not have adequate off-street parking, but applications will only be approved under specific circumstances.
All vehicles at the residence must be registered to the address. If there are more vehicles than parking spaces available at the address, they must all be registered to that residence to qualify for one waiver permit needed for on-street parking.
Those applying must also have a backup plan for off-street parking to use when it snows or there is a snow emergency in effect due to a forecasted snowfall, the police department said.
All vehicles, with or without a parking waiver, must be off the street when it snows or a snow emergency has been declared.
Any vehicle that is left on the street will be subject to a $50 fine in addition to a towing charge when the vehicle is removed from the street. Violators who have been issued a parking waiver will be subject to review and possible revocation of their waiver, the department said.
The Police Department, Fire Department, and Department of Public Works will review the parking locations requested by the applicant and all three departments must approve before the waiver is granted. If any of the departments reject the location, the application will be returned to the resident so they can find a more suitable place to park.
There is a $30 nonrefundable application fee that is required to process each parking waiver request. The fee can be paid by check or money order and should be made payable to The Town of Nahant. Cash will not be accepted.
Once the application is submitted and approved by the departments, residents can expect to be notified of the approval.
