NAHANT – Just two weeks remain in the Nahant Triathlon season after Thursday?s edition of the weekly series.Dave Horick was the winner yesterday with a 41:40 finish in the combined 450-foot swim, 4.8-mile bike ride and 2.6-mile run on the Nahant Causeway from the Nahant Beach parking lot to the Lynn Beach bathhouse and back. The event sustained its second injury in 34 years when a moped cut off a cyclist, organizer Bob Levine of Lynn said.Levine said he did not know anything about the status of the moped driver, but the cyclist was taken to Salem Hospital. Information on the cyclist?s condition was not available at press time.Triathlon participant Paul Croft, a Lynn native and Swampscott resident, said he had to “wait there a little bit” on his bike ride due to the crash. There were 42 participants yesterday, beginning their journey in the surf of Nahant Beach in waters with a recorded temperature of 68 degrees.?It?s a little cooler than that,” Levine said.?It was cold, and there were a lot of waves,” Croft said. “When we were out there, there were big swells, the biggest I?ve seen this year, for sure, maybe ever.”Croft was coming off a 5-mile run the previous day in the weekly Lynn Woods summer cross country races. On Monday, he had fired the gun at the one-hour run at Manning Field as a certified official. He said he has done “three or four” Nahant Triathlons this season. The second-to-last Nahant Triathlon this season will take place next Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
