Police: Text messages prompt Revere kidnapping, beating

REVERE — A Revere man angry over text messages sent to his wife kidnapped and beat a Winthrop man Monday night, a Suffolk District Attorney’s spokesman said.

Anthony Weiner, 25, of 334 Reservoir Ave, Revere, pleaded not guilty in Chelsea District Court to assault to murder, kidnapping and other charges Monday and was ordered held without bail pending a Wednesday dangerousness hearing.

Suffolk District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark, in an electronic mail statement, said Weiner “allegedly lured” the man to a Malden Street location Monday night where he “set upon the victim,” tied the man to a chair and beat him.

“The defendant allegedly beat a 21-year-old Winthrop man badly with a baseball bat in the belief that the victim had been sending text messages to the defendant’s wife,” Wark stated.

Weiner eventually released the Winthrop man who went home before seeking medical attention for what Wark described as “serious” injuries.

“He is expected to survive,” Wark stated.

Weiner was also charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon — two counts — assault and battery to intimidate, with bodily injury, armed and witness intimidation.
