SALEM – Salem State begins its theatre season with the award-winning play “Big Love” by Charles Mee, on Thursday, Oct. 11.The contemporary play tells the story of 50 brides who flee to a small minor in Italy to escape marrying their grooms. Inspired by Greek playwright Aeschylus’ “The Suppliants”, the play tackles issues like gender politics, violence and how love affects us. Director Kate Kohler Amory said, “The play is about how hard it is to have a gender identity in 2012. I mean, the only character in a big wedding dress is the gay guy. And I promise it will be spectacular.”If You Go? Intended for mature audiences only, performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 11-13 and 18-20 at the Callan Studio Theatre at Salem State College. Tickets are $15 and $10 for students and seniors (free for Salem State students with ID).
