MARBLEHEAD – The court-ordered demolition of Wayne Johnson?s 74 Bubier Road home began Thursday with the removal of salvageable materials.Building Commissioner Robert Ives said he issued Johnson a demolition permit Thursday for the removal of cabinets, doors and other fixtures from the estimated $1 million home. Ives said he had an appointment scheduled for today with the demolition contractor, Scott Frotton of S and T Frotton Inc. of Dracut, to discuss the permit for the razing of the house.?If we can set a date I will issue a permit for the demolition and if we can?t set a date Friday I have scheduled another meeting for Tuesday,” Ives said.Frotton said he expected demolition to begin “the first of next week.”That schedule depends on the utilities, the water, and electrical and gas providers. Once the utilities are shut off the demolition can begin, Ives and Frotton said in separate interviews. The court-ordered deadline for the demolition was today, set by Boston Land Court Judge Keith Long on Nov. 9 and reaffirmed a month ago in a telephone conference involving Judge Long, Johnson, Johnson?s lawyer, Attorney David Noonan of Amherst and Attorney Frank McElroy of Marblehead, the lawyer for Dr. John and Dr. Ruth Schey, Johnson?s next-door neighbors. The Scheys have fought the construction of Johnson?s house in town board meetings since 1994 and in court since 1996, claiming that the structure blocked their view of the harbor. Johnson, who is 73, has moved to an apartment in Salem.McElroy has said the Scheys have no comment on the matter. Johnson and his lawyer could not be reached for comment.
